24 Hours: Pedal Against Cancer

I’m Patrick Kelty, an Ironman Triathlete and Endurance Coach
My path to endurance sport wasn’t conventional nor consistent.
My mother passed away when I was 12 years old - that’s where it all started. Trying to bring some light into our lives - my aunt Teddy started bringing us to local 5k’s and trail runs. I was fat, depressed, and out of shape, but it felt good to push myself and work for something. Even though I didn’t know it at the time, she planted a seed that would one day blossom.
It wasn’t until 2023 at the age of 19, when in the midst of struggles in my life I decided to cycle from my home in New Jersey to Key West, Florida. I bought a bicycle, a tent, and I set off. This ride shaped who I am as a man, and led me to my first Ironman 70.3 in 2024. Since that day, triathlon has been my lifeline and my outlet. I have since competed in 4 Half Ironmans progressing from a 6:30 -> 4:29, The Ironman World Championship in Nice, and am currently training for my fourth full Ironman where I plan to finish under 9:30.
This sport has given me my life, shown me what true belief and commitment to a dream looks like, and it is my purpose to help you to experience what this sport has to offer, and the pride that comes along with being an Ironman.
There is no “one size fits all” Ironman program, and no two athletes are alike. My coaching is built to meet you where you are, identify your specific strengths and weaknesses, and tailored to maximize your potential come race day. I curated this program with myself as an athlete in mind to provide accountability, sustainable growth, encouragement, and guidance.
My purpose here is to be by your side and on your team to help you develop into the best athlete you can be, and for you to beam with pride when you cross the finish line.

Before starting my work with Patrick I was lost. I knew what I wanted to accomplish, but I didn't know how to get there. After months of thinking ChatGPT and TikTok would be enough to help me become an Ironman, I wasn't seeing the progress I wanted. From our very first conversation, I immediately knew he was someone who could guide me toward reaching my full potential. Two months on his program was all it took: he helped me achieve the exact time and goals I had set from the beginning.
His outgoing personality and extreme optimism make training enjoyable, but what I appreciate most is that he is always realistic with you. He knows when to push you, when to challenge you, and how to keep you motivated throughout the process. Patrick has made a huge impact on my life beyond just Ironman training. Through his coaching, I developed a mindset centered around toughness, discipline, and ambition, and I've noticed a genuine difference in how I approach challenges in my everyday life. That mindset is something I will carry with me long after my Ironman journey.
Before I met and started working with Patrick my biggest weakness was on the bike. I felt like I just kept hitting a ceiling no matter what I did and could not get past that plateau. In just a month and a half between 70.3s I improved my bike time by 16 minutes on a course with the same difficulty. I also came in with a nagging calf/Achilles injury and he put together a rehab plan and I'm now running pain free and more comfortable than ever.
Working with Pat has changed my perception on how I train. His training has pushed me to limits that I thought I never had and that will carry on with me for the rest of my life. I would say that the way he trains you; the way he feeds you knowledge about all aspects of the sport and the experience working with him is worth far more than what he charges. Anyone can claim to be a coach, but only a few have the receipts to prove it, and that's exactly what he has.
I first reached out to Pat with a question about my swim technique after seeing a video of him swimming on Instagram and he sent me an absolute essay of tips for no reason — I knew immediately I wanted to hire him.
I had countless questions for Pat on a consistent basis whether it was bike maintenance, nutrition, recovery, etc. and he would always go above and beyond to point me in the right direction. You can tell he genuinely loves the sport and cares deeply about the success of his clients. When I started working with Pat I had zero endurance or experience and was completely lost in terms of what I needed to do to accomplish my first 70.3.
Working with Pat allowed me to finish my first 70.3 at a 5:45 which was great, but more importantly built up my confidence in the endurance space, and strived to educate me on Triathlon so I could understand the why behind the training.
Regardless of whether you're just starting the sport with no experience like I did or are trying to shave some time off your next race (like Pat and I now currently are) I couldn't recommend Pat more to have in your corner.
From riding the length of the East Coast for the NJ Family Resource Network to riding 24 hours in my bedroom for the American Cancer Society — $7,600+ raised between them. In a sport that is all about self-fulfillment, devoting these efforts of endurance to a cause greater than my own has been paramount to me.
